Fresh Strawberry Milk Shake

I picked up a copy of All You while out grabbing  a few things at the store the other day and I'm glad I did!  There was an awesome recipe for Fresh Strawberry Milk Shakes that I wanted to try.  I haven't had an issue of All You in awhile but while waiting in line, that's what sold me.  Tis the season and I had some fresh strawberries ready to go in the fridge.  Grab the kids and make some magic because this. is. good.

Ingredients
8 oz fresh strawberries, washed, sliced and stemmed
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 pint vanilla ice cream
1/4 cup milk

Directions
I added my strawberries and all other ingredients to my blender and simply blended it at once.  I had to give it a stir a couple times as well.  I used a soft ice cream which helps or you can let it sit out for a bit to soften.

Serves 4

This is truly a yummy sweet treat.  You can switch it up as well by adding different flavors of ice cream and fruit!

What's your favorite summer fruit?

Beer Brats with Guinness! - Recipe Swap

Since we've finally had a touch of nice weather we've already fired up the grill which has been a long time coming!  We're still dodging rain here and there but it's nice to have a break even if it is touch and go.  Ever since it stopped snowing it's been raining literally.  Give me some sunshine please.

We made a visit to a local meat market and picked up some brats along with some other meats.  Sometimes I do brats indoors with peppers and onions but the grilled way really is the way to go.  So here's what I did....

Ingredients
4 brats
1 Guinness beer
1 onion chopped

Directions

I threw my brats and onion in a pot and poured just enough beer over them to cover them.  Feel free to drink the rest!

I brought it to a boil then let simmer or low boil for 20 minutes.

You could also do this on your grill if you chose too and have a good grill pan.  Once your beer has reduced they are pretty much ready for the grill.

We just throw ours on until it has pretty grill marks and is hot!  Sometimes I eat them as is and other times I throw them back in the beer juice but it's all a matter of what you like.

I personally prefer the crispness.

This is so easy but really makes up some good brats.  It will however make your house smell like a brewery though ;)  We enjoy ours with mustard and the drunk onions!

What are you cookin' up today?

Food Scrubs

Wouldn't it be nice to see this unique pasta primavera scrub hat versus the usual when you visit the doctor's office? It certainly beats the regular blue's that can make you feel bluer!  If you work in any field where you are required to wear scrubs, finding cool looking scrubs and even foodie themes may not always be easy.

You may want to check out blue sky scrubs http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/categories/Scrubs/ .   Not only do they sell a foodie scrub hat but they have very hot colors and patterns just in time for summer in nursing scrubs uniforms. These are perfect for visiting ill relatives in the hospital.  For me personally I think it's always nice to see a cheery scrub on a nurse when you are feeling ill, especially for the kids.   What scrub colors do you like best for summer?  Are you digging the pasta primavera hat?

Carapelli Premium 100% Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil

It started with a myth
According to legend, the olive tree came into being as a result of a competition by the Greek god Zeus. Wanting to test the inventiveness of the gods, Zeus offered the City of Athens to the one who produced the most useful gift. The contest came down to Poseidon, god of the sea, who created a horse, and Athena, goddess of war and peace, who created the olive tree. Although the horse would be useful in wars, Zeus chose the olive tree: it provided food and fuel, soothed wounds, and symbolized divine blessing and peace.

I love Olive Oil!   I use it in dressings, marinades, Italian dishes and just about whatever floats my boat at the time.  One thing I've found is that not all Olive Oils are created equally.  There are some good brands and some not so good brands.

I had the opportunity to try Carapellis Premium 100% Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil and this my friends is some good stuff!  I was totally impressed that this olive oil had so much flavor.  This is really a brand to try next time you are stocking your supply.

Carapelli Olive Oil was  founded in 1893 and is still imported from Italy! They strive to provide consistent, premium quality extra virgin olive oil.  The Premium 100% Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil is  made with the finest 100% Italian olives.

Carapelli also has some wonderful recipes from their site if you are looking to create something super delish with this olive oil.
